Lithium battery sizes are divided into different models according to type, with common ones including 18650, 14500, and 26650. Lithium batteries are among the most widely used batteries today due to their high energy density, large capacity, and long service life. They are widely used in various electronic products and devices.
I. Standards and Codes for Lithium Battery Sizes
Currently, the internationally accepted standards and codes for lithium battery sizes are as follows:
Cylindrical Batteries – Examples include 18650, 14500, 26650, etc. Their size standard is diameter x height, in millimeters (mm).
Prismatic Batteries – Examples include 503450, 902540, etc. Their size standard is length x width x thickness, in millimeters (mm).
II. Common Lithium Battery Models and Sizes
18650 Battery The 18650 battery is one of the most widely used cylindrical lithium batteries. It has a diameter of 18 mm and a height of 65 mm, hence the name “18650” (18 denotes the diameter, 65 denotes the height, and 0 denotes the rounded shape). The 18650 battery is commonly used in laptop battery packs, various handheld devices, high-performance electric bicycles, etc.
14500 Battery The 14500 battery has a diameter of 14 mm and a height of 50 mm, hence the name “14500”. The 14500 battery is commonly used in flashlights, LED torches, baby monitors, small digital cameras, etc.
26650 Battery The 26650 battery has a diameter of 26 mm and a height of 65 mm, hence the name “26650”. Due to its large capacity, long life, and low internal resistance, the 26650 battery is widely used in electric bicycles, vehicles, ships, etc.
III. Lithium Battery Parameters
The parameters of lithium batteries include battery model, capacity, voltage, size, weight, etc. The common parameters are as follows:
Battery Model The battery model usually consists of letters and numbers, where the letters represent the chemical composition and the numbers represent the battery’s size and capacity information.
Capacity Capacity is one of the most important parameters of a lithium battery, indicating the amount of electrical energy the battery can store, measured in milliampere-hours (mAh). The larger the capacity, the more electrical energy the battery can provide, and the longer the usage time.
Voltage The voltage of lithium batteries is usually 3.7V, but it may vary due to factors such as charging and discharging. There are also some high-voltage lithium batteries, such as 3.2V and 4.2V.
Size The size of a lithium battery directly affects its range of application, making standardized sizes very important. When using lithium batteries, it is necessary to choose the appropriate battery size based on the size of the device’s battery compartment.
Weight Lithium batteries are generally lighter than other types of batteries, but there is a significant weight difference between different specifications. It is important to choose the right product based on specific needs.
